The project presentation titled “Establishment of Eskişehir Calibration and Measurement Technologies Application and Research Center,” supported under the “2021 Innovation and Productivity Financial Support Program” conducted by Bursa Eskişehir Bilecik Development Agency (BEBKA), operating under the coordination of the Ministry of Industry and Technology Development Agencies General Directorate, was held at the “Eskişehir Measurement and Calibration Technologies Workshop” hosted by Eskişehir Technical University.
The opening speeches of the Eskişehir Measurement and Calibration Technologies Workshop, which aims to bring together leading companies conducting research and development activities in the automotive, aviation, white goods, and defense sectors in our country, were delivered by Eskişehir Technical University (ESTÜ) Rector Prof. Dr. Adnan ÖZCAN. He stated, “To compete globally in strategically important sectors in line with Turkey’s development goals, it is essential to develop physical, human, and technological infrastructure. Measurement and testing activities are indispensable for all companies and organizations operating in these sectors. Within this scope, a laboratory operating for the development and application of test and measurement technologies needed by the industry to develop high-quality products has been established and put into operation in Eskişehir.”
Rector Prof. Dr. ÖZCAN emphasized that the laboratory aims to produce measurement probes, currently imported entirely from abroad, domestically and with national resources, and to provide measurement and calibration services in multiple fields. He added, “The knowledge and experience to be developed through studies on measurement and measurement technologies will be transferred to industrial organizations, contributing to the testing experiences of companies. In this context, we aim to collaborate with all companies targeting export, prioritizing product efficiency, and aiming to create competitive products with innovative approaches. As a university, we will continue to prioritize all projects beneficial to our country within our capabilities, as we did yesterday, today, and in the future.”
Significant Contributions to Regional Development
BEBKA Secretary-General Mr. Sabri BAYRAM, who also delivered the opening speech at the workshop, highlighted the contributions of the project titled “Establishment of Eskişehir Calibration and Measurement Technologies Application and Research Center,” supported under the “Bursa Eskişehir Bilecik Development Agency (BEBKA) 2021 Innovation and Productivity Financial Support Program,” where Eskişehir Technical University is the project owner, Eskişehir Osmangazi University is the project partner, and TUSAŞ Engine Industries Inc. and Ford Otomotiv Sanayi A.Ş. are project stakeholders, to regional development.
At the Eskişehir Measurement and Calibration Technologies Workshop, Project Manager Dr. Erdem ÖZYURT provided a detailed presentation of the laboratory introduction and work packages to the participants. Additionally, Assoc. Dr. Tolga YASA presented on “Multi-Hole Probes and Measurement Techniques,” and Res. Asst. Fırat SEZGİN presented on “Oil Flow Measurement System.” The workshop concluded with the forum “Evaluation of Turkey’s Measurement Needs.”
Aiming to Reduce Dependence on Foreign Countries
With the “Establishment of Eskişehir Calibration and Measurement Technologies Application and Research Center” project supported by BEBKA, the aim is to establish a center in Eskişehir that operates for the development and application of test and measurement technologies needed by the industry nationwide to develop high-quality products. The project also aims for the established center to be an integrated solution center that designs, produces, and applies measurement systems and calibrates these systems, thereby reducing the country’s dependence on foreign countries for measurement technologies.
The workshop’s achievements and project outputs include “localization of measurement technologies, meeting the industry’s needs, preventing the outflow of capital resources from the country, and providing indirect contributions to the national economy; sharing the knowledge and experience produced at the center with companies, benefiting students from the center, contributing to the training and employment of expert engineers; being the provider of calibration services in the TR41 Region for companies mostly meeting their calibration needs from Istanbul; being the first center to calibrate probes and establishing an accredited test system for flow measurements.”
